Cherry Blossom Festival

An homage to the Land of the Rising Sun and its customs, the Cherry Blossom Festival is held in San Francisco for the 49th consecutive year.

More than 200,000 people attend this unique event every year, which showcases the art of living, Japanese-style. During these two weekends of festivities, part of the Pacific Heights neighbourhood turns into Japantown, with successive day and night parades in traditional costumes, street performances, martial arts exhibitions, and concerts. Some shops teach the art of tea, origami, and bonsai. Children are of course not forgotten: there's a big Hello Kitty stand and Nipponese doll-making workshops. This is a very popular festival, so make sure to book early, as many of the events attract big crowds.
